I think it is safe to say at this point that we will NOT be running any ice fishing charters this season on Saginaw Bay for walleye. Warm temps, rain and unfavorable winds are not conducive to a safe outing with customers. Spotty ice conditions in other inland lakes make even that a stretch for us. We are however continuing to have great success in the rivers for Steelhead, and expect that to continue! We are also booking spring coho fishing charters for Michigan City and St Joseph Michigan, prime dates are filling up fast, and with the warm weather the action could begin very early this season!

Colder temps and snowmelt have cooled water temperatures down in the rivers right now, but the steelhead are still biting! Unseasonably warm weather is making for great steelhead fishing this winter with no end in site! Silver fish are still coming in from the lake along with a few brown trout and walleye being mixed in the catch. Ice fishing is spotty in most places due to lack of ice. We are waiting for a nice cold snap to solid things up for us, and expectations are high for walleye on Saginaw Bay during February. Just a short couple of months and we are back on the big lake for salmon, probably an early March start for us this year down in Michigan City and St Joseph!

Our customers are having a choice of fishing opportunities from hot shotting, and float fishing with centerpins. The water is very clear so it is critical to have fluorocarbon leaders on everything! We are running Blood Run 10lb fluorocarbon leader with great success on float leaders, and stepping up to 12lb Blood Run fluorocarbon leader on our plug rods. Hot N Tots and Kwikfish in green pirate, and golds have been very good. Spawn takes fish when we are dropping float rods, and we have been doing well on yarn balls as well. Trying out some new gear (centerpin reels, plug rods, UV yarns, floats) in the next couple of weeks, we look forward to reporting on our success!
